Diana Mascari-American Composer

Diana Mascari’s music lives at the intersection of American Classical and Neo-Classical traditions, shaped by a strong foundation in classical form and enriched by the expressive language of jazz. Her works are rhythmically vibrant, harmonically rich, and emotionally resonant—offering performers a rare blend of structural clarity, lyrical depth, and interpretive freedom.

Drawing from decades of experience as both a classical musician and accomplished jazz pianist, Diana composes music that feels fresh yet familiar. Her jazz background informs the rhythmic drive and harmonic color of her work, while her formal training ensures architectural integrity and a deep intentionality behind every phrase. The result is music that rewards artistic curiosity and invites meaningful collaboration.

Her catalog spans a wide range of genres and instrumentations, including five orchestral works,

two string quartets, four saxophone quartets, a saxophone concerto, and numerous compositions for chorus and mixed instrumental ensembles. A strong emphasis on chamber music defines much of her output, including duos for flute and piano, flute and guitar, clarinet and piano, cello and piano, and saxophone and piano, as well as pieces for small mixed ensembles—all available for performance and purchase.

Diana’s music has been performed in prestigious venues such as Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall and Carnegie Recital Hall in New York City, as well as in cities across the U.S. including Boston and Washington, D.C. International performances include Berlin (Germany), Moravia (Czechia), Constance (Switzerland), and Japan—attesting to the global appeal of her compositional voice.

Her works have been brought to life by ensembles such as the Moravian Philharmonic, Manhattan School of Music Symphony Orchestra, New England Philharmonic, Boston Civic Symphony, and Wellesley Symphony. Chamber groups who have championed her music include the Berlin Saxophone Quartet, Third Rail Saxophone Quartet (featuring members of the President’s Own U.S. Marine Band), New York Saxophone Quartet, Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble, North Essex Chamber Players, Boston Composers String Quartet, and Ecclesia Consort of Rhode Island.

Diana was Wayland High School's 1994-1995 composer-in-residence. During that same period, she was awarded a Massachusetts Cultural Council composer grant, which included several performances of her Serenata by the Abbott Chamber Players. Diana holds two Master of Music degrees from the New England Conservatory and pursued doctoral studies in composition at Boston University where she taught keyboard harmony to undergraduate music majors.

Today, her catalog includes more than 25 published compositions, available through this website as well as on Sheet Music Plus and Sheet Music Direct. Additional scores are being prepared for publication and release. Diana welcomes inquiries from performers, ensembles, and presenters seeking contemporary repertoire that balances accessibility with substance—whether for concert programming, recording, or commissioned works.
